about

In certain states of mind or feeling, the self is transposed upon its setting. We puppet the landscape and its elements. We use the wind as fingers to fashion a scream in the trees, the sun is our rage reflected, etc. But are our states of thought and feeling dictate by our surroundings? Yes, but to what degree, and is the dictation preliminary, simultaneous or retroactive? I mean, we think we're making the land do our bidding, but it's only us doing the land's. The room (or plane) is context only insofar as we determine suitable. Sand is a word, and stone is another, and there are many more, but none can be more than suggestive, none has material texture (another word). Think of commercial grow crops like corn and soybeans, or even pineapples or those cubic watermelons that look like striped parcels. We support their civilization with the thought that we are supporting our own.
